Recipe for Pakistanian Fruitsalad

This is how to make it

My husband and I had a really good friend from Pakistan. He stayed in Sweden for studies and came to our home to visit. We talked, watched TV and had dinner together. He was an excellent cook and made often the food himself for us all. One day he brought a lot of fruit it was a whole bag full. Then we sat down around the kitchen table and chopped the fruit into pieces. We used:

Oranges, Bananas, Grapes, Grapefruit, Pears, Apples, Peaches, Pineapple, Avocado, Guava, Melon, Raspberries, Star Fruit, Strawberries, Kiwi, Kumquat and Blueberries

He left a couple of Limes for later. We brought out the biggest bowl we had to mix all these fruit pieces together. Now here is the twist of this fruit sallad:

Our friend added SALT AND PEPPER! He cut in half the limes and squeezed the juice into the bowl and started mixing it all. The limes blended with the juice into a thick dressing. So the fruit sallad had no liquid at all. Then we let it rest for a while and had this odd mix for lunch. With scepticism I took a spoon full. I can tell you - it was so fantastic. The salt and pepper made me think of "ordinary" food. We ate till we were full and happy. He put the rest in the fridge and said that we could use it for dinner and breakfast later. It did not go bad and was just as good the next time !!

Of course you can take any fruit you like. I just told my own story here. The special is the pepper and salt and - the squeezed Limes

Will you try this?

Are you going to give this fruitsalad a chance?

  • Absolutely! It is healthy and always right.
  • No way. I prefer sugar with my fruit salad

This sounds fantastic, I do love fruit salad, we usually only have for holidays (although I make one for just myself more often) and how much healthier with no fattening dressing!

It seems one could use any fruit...and mix it together..I love mixed fruit and have never added salt and pepper...I also love lime...so will definitely give this a try the next time I make a fruit salad...thank you for posting this!!!

This does sound worth trying. Like homesteadbound said, I put salt on melon so why not try this too? I would also really like the fact that it saved well for the next day.

This sounds great, must try it when I have a chance. I have an open mind, eventhough salt and pepper sounds a bit far fetched!

That does sound interesting. I eat watermelon with salt and have eaten cantalope with salt and pepper. I think I just might try this.
