Unusually good cake

My aunties own recipe
My uncle and aunt had a farm. I spent almost every summer there. Often just I but sometimes my parents came there too. I was a city girl and just loved the "free" life on this farm. Every morning I left my bed 5.30 to go out to milk the cows before the big truck came for the milk bottles. I worked on the fields too, driving the tractor or with a rake. The hay had to be dried while I was there. My uncle hired lots of men to help. All the farmers did, because the sunny days were uncertain in June.
My aunt was a very economic person. She did not waste anything when it came to food. Was there a slice of sausage left, she put it in the fridge for later. When my mom was there, she quickly threw it on the floor for the cat =)
So in order to feed these extra working hired men, she tried her best to serve lots but not expensive food. There were often stews with lovely gravy and vegetables. When the coffee later was served, she had a cake ready. It looked quite fancy with icing on the top. Everybody, including me, loved that cake. It was one of the most remarkable cakes I know.
Ester“s cake
A cake at low cost
In order to make this cake as cheap as possible, she invented a recipe with no eggs and no butter. Since I am an adult now, I could not resist trying to add some egg and butter, but I have to be honest, it is not necessary.
She used a round cake form with a hole in the middle. I don't have one now so I used a square one. It does not change the taste of the cake. The same procedure is that the form must be buttered and spread with bread crumbs on the inside, all over it.
THE RECIPE
3 deciliter wheat flour
3 deciliter oat rolls
3 deciliter sugar
2 coffee spoons ground cinnamon
2 coffee spoons ground ginger
2 coffee spoons ground cardamom
2 coffee spoons ground cloves
2 coffee spoons baking powder
Mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly. When they are blended, add:
3 deciliter milk.
Pour the dough into the buttered and breadcrumbed cake form. Put it into a medium warm oven for 35 minutes. (Use a wooden stick to find out when it is done, the stick is dry)
When it is done, take it out and turn it up side down on to a plate or cutting board. Let it rest for a while, and then you pour frosting over it. The frosting can be your favorite recipe or just like I did: Powder sugar and a tiny bit of water. Cut the cake and enjoy. Maybe with some vanilla ice cream on the side?

Sounds delicious! Ginger and spices = yum in my book!
One cup is NOT quite 3 deciliter. it is 2,5 dl - so if you just use ONE cup instead of deciliter it would work. Just take the same amount for the flour, oats, sugar and milk. You will be a success baker =)
This looks like something I would love. Am I correct is saying that a deciliter is 1/4 of a cup or 59.16 ml?
